Jim Cantore almost struck by lightning
The 58-year-old from Connecticut went to Cayo Costa in southerwestern Florida on Wednesday to report on Hurricane Ian.
He broadcast live on The Weather Channel as the Category 4 hurricane, with winds of up to 150 mph, swirled around him.
Dressed in a blue raincoat and protective hat, the weather geek was unfazed by the extreme storm, until he was almost struck by lightning.
Viral clips show the moment lightning struck just feet away from the reporter, which gave him a fright as he sidestepped away from it.
The lightning strike wasn’t caught on camera, but you can hear a huge bang of thunder as the weatherman jumps away.
CBS meteorologist Nick Stewart confirmed that it was lightning on Twitter, saying: “Jim Cantore’s live shot interrupted by a very close lightning strike. Very loud even on the TV microphones. In a hurricane.”

He also got hit by a tree branch
During the same report, the meteorologist was also hit by a huge tree branch which had been ripped off by Hurricane Ian.
As he struggled to stand up due to the intense winds in southwestern Florida, a massive branch flew at him with extreme force.
Videos show Jim crashing to the ground as the massive piece of wood flew at him and got caught in his feet, leaving him unable to move.
After a few attempts, he eventually managed to stand up and the branch flew down the road in the wind as Jim tried to make it back to the cameraman.
However, the gusts were so intense that he had to cling on to a signpost, and you can hear the cameraman shouting “Jim are you alright?” in the clips.
“I’m fine I’m fine, I just can’t stand up,” he replied before finally making it back to the rest of the crew.
